I can't really remember when I first hit the long road; somewhere back around 1964 I think. Since then there have been a lot of places I've left from and even more I've been to.

Gretchen and I have been lovers, best friends and traveling companions since 1990. We've covered a lot of the planet; Europe, Asia, India, Egypt, Latin America, Russia, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand and of course here in the US.

By visiting the past, we get a better idea of why we are and what we are. Things haven't really changed all that much. We still live in a world filled with cultural creativity, technological advancement, culinary rapture, international scandal, miopic religious tolerance, insensible prejudice, silly power struggles, corrupt governements, conspicuous consumption and abject poverty. As the philosopher/essayist George Santayana so aptly put it, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

Travelling may have become a little more inconvenient these days but it certainly hasn't stopped us. As soon as we get back home to San Francisco, we're already thinking about the next place to go. Being there is a whole lot better than just reading about it.

The digital camera came our way in 1999 and so that's how far back this website will take us.

Hope you enjoy our travel tales. There are some great personal adventures and a lot of strange historical facts (or maybe just stories). When dealing with history, it's sometimes hard to separate the fact from the fiction.

Keep checking back.

All the best,

Jonathan and Gretchen
